How to Organize Your Laundry Room to be an Optimal Multi-Purpose Room
Updated: Jul 26

The kitchen usually gets all the attention as the space — it’s the heart of the home where life happens. But, to that, I say, beware the dark horse. The quiet runner-up. The laundry room!
Keep reading for tips on making your laundry room function for wayyyy more than just stinky clothes…
Place Dirty Laundry Drop-Offs Strategically
First, every person in your household should have a spot to corral their dirty clothing. A hamper in any space where they disrobe is a bonus. Not just bedrooms, think bathrooms too.
Don’t forget to include a lid for your hampers! Have you ever smelled a 14-year-old boy after a full day of school AND a football game in the heat of the Texas summer? No? Lucky! His hamper better have a lid.

Take Advantage of Additional Storage
If you have more space in your laundry room than is needed for just laundry, consider yourself one of the lucky ones! Laundry rooms can hold so much promise for helping to organize the rest of your home.

Take Advantage of the Vertical Spaces
If you have tall ceilings (like many laundry rooms do), look UP instead of just looking around!
Install shelving to utilize the height of your space. Stack your washer and dryer. Add some vertical rows of hooks. The sky is the limit with lofty spaces.
Once you've decided on the basics to house your goods, it's time to get cracking! Look for utility bins to use to organize this space. Plastic and acrylic are two of my favorites because, with laundry room items, easy clean-up is the name of the game.
Come on. Y'all know me by now. What's the last step in all of my fave organizational projects?

LABELS!!!
Yes! You're right! You're so freaking smart! Labels provide the best reminder of what goes in which box, bin, basket, etc.
